These cams, especially the 5R, were designed to the outer limits of the valvetrain geometry. On this family of Mitsubishi head designs there is a limitation of how much valve lift we can achieve while maintaining good rocker arm to valve tip contact and stability.
Like the 4R grind, the larger 5R grind is very well suited to high RPM
operation and is capable of 11krpm with the proper spring setup. The
FP5R gives a further increase in upper RPM power over the 4R grind and
turbo selection should reflect this extra upper RPM capacity.
