EVO 8 Maintenance: Motor Oil & Filter Change

Oil Change Procedure :  Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII 03-05 GSR, MR, RS

Published By:  Justin Hamel  (February 13th, 2005 at 8:14pm)

Mitsubishi recommends changing your oil every 3,000 miles. It is very important that you change you oil on schedule, your turbo lives off the oil in your car! Do no use conventional based motor oil. Using conventional motor oil may cause damage to the engine and/or the turbocharger. Never use "blends" of conventional and synthetic oil.

1.) Start your engine and allow it to warm.

2.) Shut off the engine.

3.) Use care as oil will be hot. Remove the engine oil filler cap.

4.) Remove the drain plug to drain oil

5.) Remove the side cover.

6.) Remove the engine oil filter.

7.) Clean the filter bracket side mounting surface and ensure the old o-ring has been removed.

8.) Apply a small amount of engine oil to the o-ring of the new oil filter.

9.) Where the oil filter o-ring touches the oil pan flange, tighten the oil filter to 3/4 turn past free spin

10.) Install the side cover, that was removed earlier.

11.) Install a new drain plug gasket and then tighten the drain plug to 29 - 3 ft-lb.

12.) Refill the specified quantity of oil.

13.) Install the oil filler cap.

14.) Check oil level

15.) Rev the engine a few times, and check to be sure that no engine oil leaks from the installation area of the oil filter.
